A quick google search shows that I am not the only one with complaints to make about Virgin Trains as an article written just two days ago in The Daily Express clearly illustrates.
Being the third time that I have come to blows with Virgin Train staff over the simple matter of wanting to travel with my bicycle I have finally decided to put pen to paper and make a formal complaint.
Now I understand that when there are only four bicycle places on a train (don’t even get me started on how ridiculous this is when there are always at least three completely empty first class coaches) there is some need for a reservation system to give priority to those who have booked. Fine. But to stop two bikes getting on an empty bike carriage on a direct service with no other stops is just ludicrous!
After being told on the platform by a rude Virgin ticket attendant not to get on the train and instead – to remain stranded in the rain 100 miles from home? I put our two bikes on the train anyway, sat down and the next thing I know the attendant on the platform had instructed the train manager to evict us from the carriage and so it unfolded:

Train Manager “did you just put your bikes on the train”
Me “yes”
Train Manager “If you haven’t got a reservation then you have to get off the train”
Me “but there are no other bikes on this train and its now a direct service to London”
Train Manager “but how did you know there are any other bikes there! What would you have done if there were?!”
Me “If there were I wouldn’t have got on the train, there aren’t and there won’t be. I am not getting off this train.”
Train Manager admits defeat, other passengers offer solemn smiles showing their support. I sit back down feeling shaky but pleased at my tiny victory.
If Virgin Trains really “firmly believe that rail has a clear role to play in sustainable transport, and want to lead the charge.” then I suggest they modernise their staffs views and their trains, to make room for more bikes.

CYCLODELIC’s products are now on sale at 2 Wheels in Dublin. 2 Wheels is a new bicycle shop opened by Brian McDermott and Kevin Hillier. The founders were part of the group that created the Panamerican Cycle Test . This was a concept to use a bicycle journey to raise funds and awareness for street children in Kenya. They cycled 25,000km from Alaska to Argentina and have raised 150,000 euro so far. Upon returning they decided to use their experience to open a bicycle shop.
We’re proud to announce that CYCLODELIC products are now able to be shipped all over the European Union.

Last night was the Bobbin Bicycles event, celebrating the opening of their new bigger bicycle boutique. We popped in for drinks at the shop and then headed over to My Sugarland for a fashion show set to music by a live pianist and punctuated with fantasy tales about the Bobbin world. CYCLODELIC’s Kimono Jacket was featured in the show, check it out below! It was a lovely evening filled with beautiful clothes, lots of bikes and really nice people.

Cyclodelic teamed with Brighton & Hove Council to facilitate the Wheels of Fortune fashion show for the White Night Festival in Brighton on October 23rd. Every year thousands of people gather in Brighton to celebrate the turning back of the clocks. The show gave local retailers specializing in urban, street and sport fashion a chance to promote their products.
The catwalk for the show was built out from the steps of the Unitarian Church on the pedestrianized New Road. The four pillared entrance of the church provided a dramatic backdrop to the bright fashions that were showcased. Bright lighting effects and visuals projected on the facade of the building, combined with a cool mix from the DJ, featuring music from local bands and DJs made the clothes dazzle on the catwalk. The products featured in the show were bright, modern performance inspired pieces from Addict, Cycle Chic, Cyclodelic, Brooks Running, Cyberdog, Vans, The Jog Shop, Tokyo Fixed Gear, Two n Fro and She Active. Bikes were supplied by M’S Cycles, Cyclodelic and Cranks. Exposure Lights helped illuminate the stage and make-up was applied by Shu Uemura, styled by Xanthe Goode.
The crowd began gathering hours before the start, in awe of the fabulous venue. During the show, everyone was transfixed on the bright, beautiful clothing that would make anyone shine on the streets of Brighton. Ultimately, Wheels of Fortune was a huge success and a great deal of fun. The show definitely amplified the energy and contributed to the funky vibe of the festival. It was a great way to celebrate the turning of the clocks!

Last week I was fortunate enough to get a chance invitation to the launch of BM Models in Brighton. Fortunate as we have been working really hard to put a fashion show together for the White Nights Festival this Saturday (see below) but a couple of gorgeuos girls and guys short. Luckily the elegant Bethania who co runs the company was on board to save the day.
Unlike certain agencies we’ve dealt with in the past BM Models come across as professional, efficient and non elitist. They also offer a range of creative and consultancy services – take a look at what they have on offer here.
